6.28 Annual or Vacation Leave

Chapter 6.00: Personnel




I. Only twelve (12) month employees of the School Board shall earn vacation leave with pay in accordance with the following schedule:

• 0 - 4 years completed service 12 days per year - 1.0 days per month

• 5 -9 years completed service 15 days per year - 1.25 days per month

• 10 years and up completed service 18 days per year - 1.5 days per month

II. A year of creditable service shall be based on the fiscal year and shall be defined as not less than one (1) day more than one-half (1/2) of a complete year of service.

III. An employee shall accrue vacation leave on a monthly basis provided the employee has worked or was on paid leave at least one (1) day more than half of the work days during the month. Leave shall be earned from the beginning date of employment. Employees will not be allowed to accumulate more than sixty (60) days of vacation leave at any one time. An employee desiring vacation leave must complete a leave form in advance and obtain the approval of their supervisor at least ten (10) days in advance of the requested leave. The requirement for ten (10) days prior notice may be waived at the discretion of the immediate supervisor. Leaves shall be coordinated with the immediate supervisor and shall not create a hardship on the department.

IV. The immediate supervisor shall schedule vacation giving due consideration to the needs of the service and the ability of the remaining staff to perform the work of the department.

V. A temporary employee shall not earn vacation leave, nor be entitled to vacation pay upon separation.

VI. Official holidays occurring during a vacation shall not be charged to vacation time. VII. An employee moving from one position to another retains accrued vacation.

VIII. Employees who have been transferred to another site and who have made requests for vacation leave prior to the transfer, shall have such requests honored if prior approval has been given by the supervisor and the Superintendent.
