The Okeechobee County School Board welcomes you as a new teacher to the district! The School Board is committed to ensuring all Okeechobee County classroom teachers demonstrate the competencies that impact school improvement, personal growth, and most importantly, student academic achievement. The Office of Staff Development looks forward to working with you!

Rationale and Goals

ONE (Okeechobee New Educator) is Okeechobee’s Professional Education Competence (PEC) Program and is designed to assist all teachers in Okeechobee County Schools through support, inservice and observation feedback. The intent is to promote growth in teaching skills, which in turn will impact student achievement. The ultimate goal of ONE is to retain high quality educators through supportive mentors and professional development. Creating confident, independent, enthusiastic teachers will contribute to the success of our district’s quest  of Putting Students First!

Specifically, ONE is designed to achieve the following goals:

  • Personalize the transition to Okeechobee County School Board

  • Introduce new teachers to the culture of the state, district and school

  • Achieving Excellence through quality mentoring and support

  • Retain highly qualified teachers in our district

Purpose

ONE is designed to address competencies from the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAPS) through a portfolio of reflections, on-going interactions with a mentor team, a school-based POST team, and quarterly in service that provides specific support in areas of need.
